Netherfield CE Primary School, East Sussex
'Learning Walks'
Netherfield is pat of a cluster of schools called the ABC
cluster.
Rachel Cosson, an HLTA at Netherfield CE Primary shares her
experience of 'Learning Walks' creating a
positive school environment to support effective pupil learning and
development of the whole child.
The aim was for support staff to visit other network schools as
part of their CPD.
All ABC schools gave time to enable support staff to undertake
visits to schools within the network. The focus would give them the
opportunity to feed back to their own Head teacher.
The brief was:
- to record 3 positives;
- 3 ideas for development in their own school;
- one thing to take forward personally;
- to identify how the visit would impact on their own
practice.
Impact
This enabled the sharing of effective practice within the
network. It gave an opportunity for support staff voice to be heard
by SMT and teaching staff, so allowing discussion upon the
highlighted ideas. It gave the opportunity to reflect upon the
positives at our own schools and what could be enhanced . Also it
brought many elements of the network practice together and gave
opportunities for discussions around our own schools values and
ethos.
The next step proposed is for a cluster meeting to be
established for support staff working in particular year groups or
areas of development
