Entry Requirements for Routes to HLTA Status
Literacy and numeracy qualifications
You will need to provide evidence showing that you have
qualifications in English/literacy and mathematics/numeracy
equivalent to at least
level 2 of the national qualifications framework.
Self-review
When applying for HLTA you will need to complete a self-review which you local authority
uses to assess what training, if any, you need to meet the
HLTA
professional standards.
Training options include accredited programmes such as the
Teaching Assistant (TA) NVQ level 3,
foundation degrees, diplomas, working experience and training that
does not lead to a qualification. Training for HLTA status is
fully funded by the local
authority.
If you are already operating at the level of the HLTA standards
and do not need any further training you can proceed directly on to
the three-day 'preparation only' stage, followed by the HLTA
assessment.
NB: Once you have achieved the HLTA
status, you are no longer eligible to receive HLTA
funding to support your further professional development and
training.
